Where did dodo live ?

The dodo (Raphus cucullatus) lived exclusively on the island of Mauritius, located in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar. Mauritius was its only natural habitat, as it was endemic to the island. The tropical environment of Mauritius provided the dodo with a rich ecosystem of forests, abundant fruits, seeds, and roots for food.

Habitat Characteristics:

  1. Dense Forests: The dodo lived in the dry and coastal forests of Mauritius.
  2. Ground-Dwelling: As a flightless bird, the dodo foraged on the forest floor.
  3. Predator-Free Environment: Before humans and invasive species arrived, the dodo faced no natural predators, which influenced its evolution, such as its lack of flight and defense mechanisms.

The isolation of Mauritius and its unique ecosystem played a crucial role in the dodo’s evolution, but it also made the bird highly vulnerable to external disruptions introduced by humans.
