Classic Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe

Ingredients (for 1 sandwich):

  • 2 slices of bread (your choice: white, sourdough, or whole wheat)
  • 2 slices of cheese (cheddar, American, mozzarella, or your favorite melting cheese)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (softened, or use mayonnaise for a crispier texture)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Bread:
    Spread a thin layer of softened butter or mayonnaise on one side of each bread slice. This side will go face down in the pan.
  2. Assemble the Sandwich:
    Place one slice of bread (buttered side down) on a plate or cutting board. Add the cheese slices on top, then cover with the second slice of bread (buttered side up).
  3. Heat the Pan:
    Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  4. Cook the Sandwich:
    Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy. Use a spatula to gently press down on the sandwich to ensure even cooking.
  5. Flip and Finish Cooking:
    Carefully flip the sandwich over and cook the other side for an additional 3–4 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.
  6. Serve and Enjoy:
    Remove the sandwich from the pan, let it cool for a minute, then cut it in half diagonally. Serve warm with soup, chips, or your favorite side.
